Ten Year Tenure

Back in 2011 I felt the Lord say that prayers offered for Waterford, Michigan during the next ten year period would secure a certain tenure for the one praying.  "Tenure" has to do with how property or real estate is held.  When I first heard this I was thinking of tenure as in a teacher getting tenure at a school as a permanent position.  I was thinking of a type of seniority or security.  But then when I looked up the word "tenure" I realized it has to do with the rights to real estate and I got really excited.

God is saying by investing prayer into Waterford He will pay back that investment with certain rights to the land.  God owns the earth, (Psalm 24:1, 1 Corinthians 10:26).  It all belongs to Him.  And He's willing to give us spiritual "rights" in this land.

In an absolute government, (like a King), a precarious tenure is given.  This means the use of the land is subject to the will of the King, (owner).  So as we invest prayers into Waterford, we can access a certain spiritual right or authority to see that God's will be done here in Waterford.  That is exciting news!

I also felt that the Lord was saying to pray now for what we would like to see Waterford become.  When the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters in Genesis 1:2 the Amplified Bible says He was "moving (hovering, brooding)" over it.  He was contemplating what had become of the earth.  He was protecting it and planning what He would do in the future.  God doesn't act impulsively.  In the same way, He wants His people to contemplate--to seek Him, to pray and envision all that Waterford could be.

In 2 Kings 4:1-7 we read the story of a widow of one of the sons of the prophets.  She told Elisha that the creditors were going to make her sons slaves.  Elisha asked what she had in her house and she said she had a jar of oil.  He told her to go borrow a lot of empty vessels.  She did and, as instructed, she poured the oil from her jar and filled up all the vessels.  When the last one was filled the oil quit flowing.  When praying, don't limit God.  Don't borrow just a few vessels.  Your prayers and faith determine how much oil will flow.  How empty will you get to make room for the oil--the anointing of His Spirit?  Don't limit God.  Now is the time to pray for signs, wonders and miracles.  Now is the time to pray for the salvation of Waterford.  Now is the time to be creative and imagine everything God could do here and pray--believing--for it to be so!

This word about tenure is a word from the Lord.  Use it to wage a good warfare.  We need to know what God is saying about our lives, our families, our city and our nation.  Paul told Timothy that those prophetic words that God gives can be used to fight a good fight with. (1 Timothy 1:18).  The promises of God won't (always) just fall into your lap.  You need to fight for them, seek Him and pursue those promises.
